A wine that I like to buy for my own cellar, given how seamlessly it ages, Hope Marguerite uses grapes from two blocks on the farm in Bot River, planted in 1974 and 1978. Expressing what Sebastian Beaumont calls a “great vintage”, it has wonderful focus and self-confidence, with scented 25% new oak, pear, wet stone and citrus zest flavours and a whisper of stone fruit sweetness.
